Who is Conrad von Honig?

He's found evidence of extraterrestrial intervention in Mankind's development.

Then he faced disgrace when a partner's dishonesty was discovered.

Now he roams the world, seeking concrete evidence of his opinions and making certain that Mankind proves worthy of their alien benefactors for the day when they return.

A few months ago, my buddy Jim Beard (who is a fantastic author, as you'll see if you go HERE) approached me, wondering if I would be interested in contributing to a new anthology book he was editing. I've been in three others, like THIS, THIS, and certainly THIS. I was intrigued by his outline concerning the life of Conrad von Honig (the first syllable of the last name is pronounced "Hah").

Then Jim must have read my mind because he invoked three names: Eric von Daniken, X-Files, and Carl Kolchak. Von Daniken wrote the seminal Chariots of the Gods, a 1969 book that presented a convincing case for aliens having visited Earth centuries ago. After becoming a media darling, von Daniken wrote a few more books on the subject, but the subject got pretty much played out.

The X-Files should need no introduction. Nor should Carl Kolchak, as portrayed by the late Darren McGavin (we shall not speak of the Stuart Townsend version) in two TV movies and one of the finest horror shows ever created: Kolchak: The Night Stalker, created by Richard Matheson (his son, Christian, co-created Bill & Ted ... so if you don't like Kolchak or Bill & Ted, the odds of us being friends are pretty slim).

So of course, I gave my heartiest affirmative. How could I resist?

Jim Beard wrote a pilot tale to give us all an idea of what he wanted

Then Jim wrote the "pilot," if you will. The story made me want to leap into von Honig's life and mess it up a little.

I have friends and a relative who went to Viet Nam to fight in that war, one being there when it fell. I've had an interest in the place ever since.

Well, QUEST FOR THE SPACE GODS: THE CHRONICLES OF CONRAD VON HONIG came out a couple of weeks ago. The book is totally AWESOME, if I do say so myself. Behind an amazing Mark Maddox cover that hearkens to the great action paperbacks of the '70s, the stories are written by Fred Adams Jr., Terry Alexander, Desmond Reddick, Frank Schildiner, Jim Beard, and myself. In fact, if you get the book, you'll learn how to score a SEVENTH tale of von Honig by Thomas Fortenberry via e-mail. These are solid tales of globe-trotting adventure, told by some of the best scribes in the New Pulp movement ... and I'm proud to be in their company. You'll be impressed with the book too!
