Novel Writing Made Less Impossible Stuff You Won't Have To Worry About (Immediately)

Once, I talked to a friend who wanted to write a book. Fine. I knew how to do that. I began with my standard lecture on how to begin plotting their first tome. "No, no," he said. "I need to know how to market it." No, he didn't. I started with plotting again and then --
"No, no. I need to know what percentage every platform is going to pay you in royalties."
No, he didn't. I gave the lesson one more try before --
"No, no. I need to know every expense I'll face while putting together my book."
No, he didn't. I gave up.
When you sit down to write your novel, the only thing you need to worry about is WRITING YOUR BOOK. Nothing more and certainly nothing less. That's not to say you can't do your due diligence concerning your anticipated expenses, scheduling a time to write, planning your promotional campaign, considering a crowdfunding attempt, etc.
But the bottom line is you can't market what you don't have to sell. You can't count the royalties until you finish the work and put it out into the public arena. Until you have a story, why worry about how you'll publish it yet?
So write the book. Once you finish it, THEN you can concern yourself with putting it into the readers' hands.
Your comments are welcome, as always. I'm braced for it.
