Novel Writing Made Less Impossible --Introduction Continued: You Should Be Committed

As the old saying goes, you don't have to be crazy to be a writer, but it helps.

But if you're going to be anything, you should be COMMITTED.

This field is littered -- more like INFESTED -- with wannabes who think that declaring themselves a writer automatically bestows the honor upon them. The problem is that most of these people don't perform the act itself. They don't write. At all. Ever!

If anything, the most creative thing they do is lie about their status as a writer. To be a writer, you must write, period.

Once you decide to become a writer, and particularly if you want to make a living from your efforts, you must commit to FINISHING whatever you start.

What you'll see in this series, as it unfolds, is that book writing is a PROCESS. If you looked at all that's involved in getting a book before the public, you'd be intimidated, more than likely. I know I was for the longest time.

Then I broke this down into tiny steps, each one do-able, each one teachable. However, it meant nothing until I promised myself I would finish my first book. It wasn't easy as I worked my way through the novel-writing learning curve as I crafted the story from first word to last. However, I knew that if I didn't complete the book, no one would do it for me and it certainly wasn't going to happen on its own.

So what was my immediate reward? Immense satisfaction. Many talk about writing a book ... but I actually DID IT! Then during the first month after releasing Bloodshot: The Coldest Warrior, it shot up to the #2 slot in the Kindle Worlds/Action-Adventure category and was also the Hot Book of the Month. It consistently stays in the Top 100 Action/Adventure books and is frequently the #1 Valiant Comics-based book in the program.

It also makes me a little bit of money every month. It also helps sell my other work because as I say, nothing exceeds like success.

Did I want to quit at times? Yeah! Was it harder than I initially believed? You bet! Was it worth it? The only way to find out is to do this for yourself.

So as this blog proceeds, I hope you'll join in and work along with me. By the time I'm done with these hints, I hope you'll have your book ready to market, whether you publish it yourself or you sell it to someone else to bring to print. And I promise that once you do this, it gets easier. EVERY TIME!

So commit to finishing your book. Getting published is the best reward.
